Oncology Director - Physician Practices

Work Schedule:  Full-Time,Day, 40 hours,Weekly

  • Generally, 8-5 with some early morning and late evening meetings.

What Will You Do:

We are seeking an Oncology Director – Physician Practices to oversee 9 physician practices with 36 physicians. Practice include hematology/oncology, surgical oncology, infectious disease and rheumatology.

Director will be accountable for the strategic development of the practices, operations, financial performance, marketing, quality performance and physician contracting. Director will work with a team of practice managers and will interface with leaders in the medical group and hospital system to advance the oncology service line.

  • Acquires, plans, and transitions new physician practices. Engages in physician contract development and negotiations, financial analysis, operations and practice transition planning. Serves as negotiator for contracts with physicians. Facilitates contracts and review by appropriate departments.
  • Meets with hospital administration and/or physician practice to obtain information/specifications and to assess the economics and other characteristics of the opportunity. Reviews overall recruitment process and makes strategic recommendations to obtain best possible outcomes.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments to develop effective physician marketing plans. Markets opportunity to potential candidates.
  • Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction and conflict management. Performs and oversees scheduling, recruitment and payroll.
  • Assures compliance with all Front Desk Procedure Manual policies. Completes self audit tool on the agreed schedule.
  • Prepares annual departmental budgets with detailed objectives and performance measures and submits for administrative approval. Monitors budget usage throughout the year to determine fiscal performance and makes appropriate adjustments/recommendations.
  • Works with the Quality and Compliance Department that supports St. John Health physician practices by developing and implementing programs and policies designed to: enhance the quality of medical care provided; to help achieve managed care quality incentive goals; to improve accuracy and efficiency of coding for professional billing services; and to facilitate compliance with the SJPHS Compliance Program, including state and federal regulatory requirements.

Qualifications Required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business or similar field required
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business or similar field preferred

Work Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience with oncology practice management or oncology operations highly desired.
  • Experience in managing a large physician practice group strongly preferred
  • Experience in managing physicians, and negotiating physician contracts.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

  • Experience in program development and strategic planning.
  • Process improvement, strong financial, and physician contracting skills highly preferred.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and willingness to develop alternative ways to engage physicians and patients.
