The Bureau of Professional Licensing (BPL) within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) is now accepting applications for a genetic counselor license and temporary genetic counselor license.
Pursuant to MCL 333.17093 of the Public Health Code, beginning 1 year after the effective date of the rules promulgated, an individual shall not engage in the practice of genetic counseling unless he or she is licensed as a genetic counselor under this part. The genetic counseling rules were promulgated effective April 15, 2021. Therefore, to engage in the practice of genetic counseling, licensure is required by April 15, 2022.
