Effective January 1, 2026, three new Category I codes (97007, 97008, and 97009) are available to report mechanical scalp cooling. The CPT codes describe associated work when ordered by a physician or qualified healthcare professional and performed by trained clinical staff using an FDA-approved mechanical scalp cooling device. Work performed by clinicians and clinical staff during the chemotherapy administration time may not be separately reported from chemotherapy administration. These codes do not apply to self-administered scalp cooling.
