The Trump Administration has proposed a new rule that applies to all federal agencies and would dramatically reshape the federal grantmaking process. The changes proposed by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which include limiting scientific dissemination and allowing federal agencies to terminate grants at will, threaten to undermine hematology research and patient care.
ASH submitted comments to OMB urging for the immediate withdrawal of the rule and is alerting members of Congress about the devastating impact this rule would have on hematology research and practice.
The impact of this proposed rule can be significant: long-term studies, multi-year clinical trials, and collaborative research initiatives require reliable funding and the ability to plan years into the future. Increased uncertainty could discourage innovative research, delay discoveries, and disrupt ongoing studies. This will prolong the translation of scientific advances into new treatments and cures for patients.
The Continuing Resolution (CR) will delay the implementation of the OMB Rule until December 11th, however, this is only a temporary solution. Congress must take the next steps to permanently withdraw the proposed OMB rule to protect hematologist and their patients.
